Here are some of the features of Glenaden’s shirts
(and some handy care tips!)
- Crossover button stitching with ‘heavy duty’ tie formation make buttons falling off a thing of the past.
- Single needle French seams at the sleeve head really add a luxurious appearance to the shirt and a strength which is unbeatable.
- All shirts are hand pressed and finished to exacting standards to ensure that your shirt is just right.
- All our shirts use very fine fabrics which pass stringent testing. Many are fine two-fold fabrics from the exclusive design houses of the Italian shirting mills. Care advice – iron dark fabrics, particularly collars and cuffs, on the reverse to avoid ‘shining’. Please wash fine fabrics with the care they deserve !
- Two piece fully lined collars which are hand turned. We have fused lining collars and non-fused lining collars. Fused linings give a crisp look every time and for that really luxurious, Jermyn Street look, try the non-fused linings. These need special care and attention but it’s worth it! Care advice – when ironing non-fused collars and cuffs stretch them on the board and iron from the outside inwards, if there is some excess fabric in the collar don’t worry – this will disappear when the collar is bent around your neck. Try not to press the collar tips. When ironing collars and cuffs with fused linings iron them on the reverse to avoid shining and it will make the shirt last longer !
- Pockets are matched to a high standard with the stripes and checks in the fabric.
- All of our business shirts and some of our fashion shirts have collar bones hand placed, in special pockets beneath the collar to ensure the collar retains its shape. These vary from 5 micron to 20 micron thickness depending on the look we want you to achieve – from quite firm to beautifully soft.
Care advice – remember to remove collar bones when washing.
- Luxury gauntlet pieces are added on both sides of the split in the sleeve to give the strength and finish required in this key area. Care advice – if your shirt has a button on the gauntlet DON’T iron over the button when ironing the front of the sleeve – very quickly you will have excess wear in that spot !
- At the bottom of the side-seam of our business shirts, you will find a specially woven Thread & Bone gusset. This adds strength to this key seam and a touch of luxury.
- The length of our shirts are designed to meet the ‘purpose’ – long length on business shirts and fashion lengths on our ‘1’ shirts.
- All our lockstitch machines are set to the highest standards using years of experience. Many business shirts dismiss this just because you can’t see it!
- Cuffs are available in round edge and straight edge and attached with a double pleat for comfort.
- Spare buttons and bones are included, concealed in the shirt.
